KEEP YOUR FOCUS
As we begin a new calendar year, I am reminded of a
scripture that the Lord has used to keep me focused.
It's a simple command, yet many times overlooked.
Psalm 100:2 - "Serve the Lord with gladness."
I see two questions in this short verse that require an
answer:
1) Am I serving the Lord, or am I serving man?
When I am serving man, the flesh gets in the way. I look
to man for approval and acceptance, for affirmation and
appreciation. Those are all necessary elements to be
sure, but if those needs supersede my love and devotion
to God, or diminish the knowledge of who I am in Christ
and my acceptance to God, then I am off course.
2) Am I serving the Lord with gladness?
The root word glad means having a feeling of joy,
pleasure, being content, ratified, or very willing. Am I
serving the Lord with a willing heart, or do I do it grudgingly
or out of obligation?
When I remind myself that I am serving the God of the
universe, and the things I do have eternal value, then I am
able to stay on course.
Additionally, I remember that I don't have to serve God, I
get to serve Him, and that gives me great satisfaction.
Will you ask yourself those same questions?
